New Beginnings

Dear dreamer,

It’s been a while since I have last put anything onto the web and a lot has happened since.

I’ve gained and lost jobs, built and destroyed businesses, and ultimately, am at the precipice of what is next to come. My last day at Sydecar was on September 30th, 2023 and I am immediately jumping back into the world of entrepreneurship.

‘Jumping back’ you say incredulously???

That is right - I joined Sydecar as the first employee. The pieces at play there were like continents on of a young planet with a hot roiling core. Actions and initiatives were fluid and every day I could see us fighting with the zeal of validating our business. We knew we were onto something, it was just a matter of going and seizing it. Being first employee is in every sense of the word entrepreneurial.

I say that I am now jumping back into it as the last few months have been anything but entrepreneurial. The playbooks were written, the dashboards were built. It was time to execute but unfortunately, my seat at the table was less visible and I stopped feeling the type of ownership and joy I had felt in the first days. I spent 2 and a half years there making friends and learning all I could from my pals Nik and Dave, and I now know that its time for me to take those learnings and start anew.

I have a lot of endeavors in the mix, creative and entrepreneurial (I’ve learned that I need to have both to stave off negative feelings) but the one I am most excited for is R&R Records, a premier Retool internal tools consulting firm with a side of traditional research. A real ‘come for the tools I build you, stay for my sunny shining personality and wisdom’ deal. I’ve already onboarded a few clients and have been workshopping pricing and my branding, hence the parked website.

Consider this a soft launch for my incredibly internal group of supporters. By the next week’s update, I’ll have a tighter tagline, but if you know of anyone who would love to chat about branding, pricing strategy, paid marketing, inbound/outbound sales, optimizing funnels, email marketing, automation, LLMs, and creating playbooks/tools for all of the above, please feel free to point them to [email protected]! I look forward to keeping this newsletter open to share all of the insights I happen upon and any other businesses I build!

Ad astra,
Kanan

P.S. You might be wondering how I got the name of R&R Records. Wouldn’t it make more sense to do something more focused on being an agency and less about music? Maybe, but I think its a vibier name and my brother, the other R, liked the name, so its stuck
